This Great Blue Heron was photographed on an overcast July morning along a secluded portion of the Bellaire Causeway, near Bellaire Beach, Florida. He stood for a long time near this battered old bench that had washed up on shore, perhaps during one of the four hurricanes that had hit Florida the summer before. A broken off road sign, probably another victim of one of those storms, lay on top of the bench. Though none of those storms directly hit this area, the effects were very widespread. It is rare that the effects of storm damage can lead to an image that is picturesque, but this one evokes a feeling of serenity, and a beauty that can be accepted as it is, without undue consideration as to how those articles found their way there. The bird doesn't care how they got there. He just seems to be pleased by their presence. [Edition of 250]
