This stately great blue heron was photographed among the mangroves of the intercoastal waterway of Sand Key, at Indian Shores, Florida. The calm waters act as an undulating mirror, reflecting the clear blue late afternoon sky and the nearby sunlit mangroves. Here, the bird's name gains added relevance as it almost hides among the blue reflections. As I reflect on this photo, I am struck by the contrast between the serene feeling that it now invokes, and my recollection of the excited anticipation that I felt as I composed and captured the image. Such is the joy of photography, as the pleasure and enjoyment given by the artwork is multiplied by the experience of capturing the image. [Edition of 250]
